How children learn at Oakforge

A seven-year-old will not sit through a grammar lecture, and should not have to. Our kids’ tutors teach through activity loops — a story raises new words, a song fixes their sound, a game forces them out of the mouth, and a small craft or drama project puts them into sentences. By the end of a loop the child has used each new word twenty times without noticing.

Age groups

• Acorns (5–7). Phonics, first vocabulary, listening comprehension and the confidence to speak up. Lots of movement, singing and picture stories.
• Saplings (8–10). Reading fluency, everyday conversation, simple writing, and the grammar of storytelling — past tenses arrive here, disguised as adventure tales.
• Young Oaks (11–12). Longer reading, structured paragraphs, presentations to the class, and preparation for secondary-school English demands.

What parents get

• A short written progress note after every fourth lesson — what your child can newly do, and what we are working on next.
• Recordings of every online class, so you can watch how your child participates.
• A mid-year parent call with the tutor, plus an open door for questions on WhatsApp.
• An end-of-year certificate and a little graduation moment they genuinely look forward to.

Classes are capped at eight children and grouped by both age and level, so a shy beginner is never seated next to a chatty near-fluent classmate of the same age.
